Some people wear suspenders proudly, while others won’t even consider them. I was in the latter group, but once I tried suspenders (for comfort while recuperating from surgery), I quickly became a convert. I had thought that constantly tugging on your jeans was just one of life’s fundamental principles. It’s not. And if you don’t like the look, they work fine under your shirt.
Anyway, I bought 3 different kinds: Dickies, HoldUp Suspender Company, and Carhartt heavy duty.
DICKIES: The Dickies are my favorite. PROs: they are inexpensive and the material is lighter, stretchier, and more comfortable. I am less aware of wearing them. They are my go-to for everyday, informal use. CONs: None.
The HoldUps. These are the TSA compliant version. (Buy two, so you have a spare in case one breaks while traveling.) PROs: They make air-travel much less of a hassle. These are also a little nicer and would be more appropriate for a suit, although they would certainly work with jeans. They have a wide range of materials, colors, and hardware. CONs: The material is thicker and more rubberized, so you are more aware of wearing them and they are a little hotter in summer. Also the length adjustments are plastic and seem prone to slip, but not a big deal, and a worthwhile tradeoff to avoid TSA hassles. Expensive vs. the Dickies.
The Carhartt’s. These are for heavy-duty work environments. PROs: Oversize, high-quality hardware means they will almost always stay attached and that they will hold up heavy loads–think heavy waterproof pants for for fire-fighters, etc. (Still, they work perfectly fine with jeans.) CONs: They are heavy, 2″ wide, and you are always conscious of wearing them. Expensive vs. the Dickies.
(Same review posted for Dickies, HoldUp, and Carhartt.)

Very comfortable, and sturdy suspenders. The 1 1/2 in. is the perfect width.

Have not written since I was a child. Decided to try again and I really like them. Clams could be a little more close reliable but for the most part they’re great
amazon customer –
They seem like pretty good quality and good fit.

I worked at Kmart for quite a few years and we sold a lot of Dickies pants shirts belts etc. Always was very satisfied with Dickies products. However I bought the suspenders thinking they would be an excellent purchase. I have really been disappointed with these, the elastic of the straps is very poor. I think they’ll be very durable, they fit okay and the length is fine not really sure if they will slip while I’m wearing them because of the material that they’re made of. My biggest complaint is the elasticity. I like for my suspenders to have a little bit of give to them to make them comfortable.

I wear these 5 days a week to work as my work pants are just a little loose and the next size down is too tight. Two years is about average life for a pair before they become a little stretched & the clips start to lose their grip.
RUBY WELDA –
Very good quality. Nice stretch, no complaints at all. Would recommend. to anyone.

I purchase these for Christmas for my daughter’s boyfriend and they were far nicer and better made than the pictures would suggest! I know they will fit him well and the clips are fancier than the pictures would suggest! I ordered a pair for myself after seeing Ty’s.
Amazon Customer –
Fit well and comfy! Great for all types of pants or shorts!

I read through the reviews when I was ordering. I had worried a little about the number of posts that the suspenders were too short.
I’m 5’11” and weighing in at 370 lbs. I carry a lot of that weight in my belly. The el cheapo suspenders I got at a big block retailer were stretched to their limits, and every time I bent down to pick something up, the back clips would come off and fly over my head. I had seen Dickies at the same store, but only the ones that hooked up to the belt. My large belly puts much stress on belts, that’s why I wanted to find suspenders, so that wasn’t an option.
I got these. Fears be quelled. The adjusters work just like it states in the Amazon description. Pull them up (though you might have to move them back if they are catching in the fabric) and slide to the new position, then lock down, and push the back bar flat.
As for those “too small” reviews. Nonsense. The size marked is 1S (for One Size, duh). And I have about 8 inches to go on mine before they max out in length. So maybe if you are 6’7″ and over 450 lbs, you “might” have an issue. Otherwise no.
The clips grab well. I have not had them come off my pants or shorts unless *I* wanted to remove them. And that includes $60 in quarters (I hate laundry day.)
They hold my pants up. They stay attached. They a great pair of suspenders for anyone who wants suspenders to hold their pants up.
I’ve been rocking these guys for a month now. I’m one very satisfied customer.
Thanks for listening to my review. I stated a lot of personal information because I want to be clear that I’m really putting these things through a test. And yes, I am currently working on loosing weight, and doing a good job. These suspenders make it easier to walk when I know my pants are going to stay up. 🙂

Husband is losing weight. Can’t wear belts, needs more than 2 pair of suspenders. No store sells them any more – only Amazon! They are comfortable, stretchy, with exceptionally firm clips that grip even heavy jeans firmly, and allow for working movement – like climbing stairs with a mattress and box springs! Stay tough, Dickies! Some of us appreciate you!
countrygirl –
They are great. Husband loves them
Brian W. Smith SR –
The suspenders were great, very comfortable, very secure

Love these for my husband, have several pairs in different colors.
Clips hold well on his blue Jeans, but have to be very careful not to catch his t-shirt as will put a hole in the shirt.
Also, when handling the adjustable clip have to hold it carefully so the teeth don’t snag the fabric of the suspender when adjusting the length.
Like where they have the X in the lower back to make sure they stay in place on his shoulders.
They can be washed but need to use a very mild soap. Rinse them right away (don’t leave soaking overnight) to prevent fading. I had others that could not be washed as the metal clips rusted. these did not rust, even after I accidently left soaking overnight.
Length was very good as my husband has a long torso and he could have adjusted them to be a foot longer if needed.

Just got them. Really easy to set up. I had the “clip” issue others have mentioned, but I found a way to resolve that. Once you set the length, hold the front of the clip down with your finger and your thumb against the pivot pin on the back of the clip, then pull the strap up firmly. The clip will lock into place. Hope that helps others.

Adjusting suspender length next to previous one bought last time discovered it’s 2 inches shorter than old one..also the snaps didn’t last as long as previous ones..the charcoal colored ones were same as old ones..

Good product. Good price.

I had several pairs of sweatpants where the drawstring broke and they wouldn’t stay up. Perfectly good, I got these suspenders so I could use them for home improvement/painting. Since they weren’t fit for going out in public, the suspenders helped me extend the life of sweat pants that would have otherwise been junked.
MakeMeAPizza –
Great deal at a great price. Quick delivery. Quality Product. Good vendor.

2nd pair in 3 years lasted a few months before clasp breaking. The ones I bought in 2008 lasted 14 years. They don’t make things as good as they used to unfortunately

Actually, I found the Dickie Suspenders! My husband had already retrieved them, and they were safe in his drawser. I had thought they were not included in the box w/ other items. Theyk work, and he likes them.
Mario Fortier –
Elles sont robustes et tiennent très bien en place. Matériaux de qualité.
Adam Spry –
Never thought I would buy these. They work great especially if I’m working. Keeps my pants from slipping, better than a belt

I had actually given up after buying my last lot of braces (Not Dickies) thinking that no one makes them to last more than 5 minutes. These Dickies ones are so good, it is refreshing to see nice strong clips again. OKAY I admit it was my own fault with continuing to chase that crappy chinese bargain that would actually be a bargain or more often than not a waste of time and money. My wife picks on me for channelling my father but I love them and I will be buying more colours.
PS My teenage kids love the Dickies stuff and could not believe they did braces.

A little bit of context: I’m female and belts have never worked well for me. I’ve tried wearing them tighter and looser, but no matter what I end up with the same problem–my pants stay up where the belt goes through the loops, but the area of the waistband between them falls after an hour of walking anywhere. I’d joked about getting suspenders in the past, but never did because not a lot of women wear them. Call me shallow, but I didn’t think they’d go with my fashion style.
I finally decided function needed to be put before form–I’m thirty now and have been dealing with this for at least a decade. I also don’t care about fashion as much as I used to, so whatever. Suspenders.
I wish I could go back in time and shake twenty-ear-old-me by the shoulders, because I should have gotten these years ago! I don’t have any issues with my pants slipping, even on the sides where there aren’t any clips. I thought I would have a problem with my chest, because it’s rather large, but the straps fit comfortably either on the outside of my breasts or straight down over them. Either way, they still work great at keeping my pants from slipping.
And as far as fashion goes, they’re barely noticeable if I put a thick or dark enough top on over them. With thinner fabric you can see them because they’re black, but I’m sure I can remedy that by layering a camisole underneath. Plus, wearing them over a shirt kind of gives me a nostalgic feeling to my high school days, when those Hot Topic non-functional suspenders hanging off the pants were all the rage. I can’t believe we kept tripping over that junk when we could have been wearing them for real! Teenagers.
I highly recommend these to anyone who has trouble keeping their pants up! I’ll definitely be buying another set in a lighter color, to see if that’s less noticeable under thinner fabric.

Perfetto. Li avevo già comprati un’altra volta

Feel like an old man using these but they are GREAT!! Working outside I don’t have to constantly pull my jeans up like I do with a belt
M. LAFLECHE –
I bought these for my husband after he complained about having to constantly pull his weatherproof pants up while out snowshoe running. He is 6’2″ with a fairly long body so I tried these as they were one of the few that don’t require belt loops and seemed long enough. These have done the job, he said they were comfortable to wear while running and the clips are very strong, even on more slippery fabric.

I bought this, I use it, and it’s fine by me. It does what it’s supposed to do without any hassle, whether it’s something simple or more practical. No big surprises, no major issues, just a product that works as expected. It’s not something I get excited about, but it gets the job done and holds up well enough for regular use. A fair four-star item that meets expectations and fits its purpose.

Good suspenders but one of the clips came damaged so it wouldn’t properly close and just kept snapping off, thankfully it was easy to repair with some pliers but do keep that in mind. The other clips tho, those have pretty good clasping force.
Keep in mind that if this is your first time using suspenders, the way to adjust their length could be a bit annoying but the system works well (other brands have this) and so far they haven’t come off.
Overall pretty good price for some decent suspenders. They feel great whether you wear them over clothes or directly over your skin.
Darth Esquire –
These are good 1-1/2″ wide suspenders. The clips and adjusters are on the large side, easy to grasp and adjust, and they hold tight. There is some kind of error with the listing that shows them as 1-1/4″ after they are in your shopping cart, but that is not the case. I carry a fair amount of stuff in my pockets so these are much more comfortable than wearing a tight belt. I bought my last pair slightly over 2 years ago and the elastic has lost some of its strength and needed readjusting over the last year. I wear them every day and they still look good. There are several listings for these at varying prices between $10 and $20, so look around before ordering.
Brench Stevens –
I bought these for work to use instead of a belt. I’ve had them a couple weeks now. They are way more comfortable, however, I think the recommendations for button suspenders are well given. The clasps can be a bit difficult to line up accurately. Also, I’ve had to tighten them up several times; I’m not sure of the durability. I’d spend more shekels on some higher quality ones next time, but these are fine, entry-level suspenders. Four stars for lesser build quality and strength.
Update (2023-8-16): One of the clasps got snagged on something and was pulled apart to the open position, bending part of the metal. I was able to bend it back into shape with some needle nose pliers I had handy, but I would’ve been completely without suspenders if I hadn’t been able to make that field repair. I think this illustrates the weakness of the clasp mechanism, though, not only in how easily it can be broken but also how dire a situation its failure can create. I’m not removing any stars for this clasp failure since its weakness was anticipated already in my previous thoughts.
